Originating in 1902 under the name McBride Manufacturing, Square D remained one of the most profitable and famous names within the industry. After adopting a new logo, a D with a square around it, and continuously being referred to as Square D, the company was eventually renamed after the trademark. Providing safety switches of all variations and safety related products, Square D remained well known within the industry, even after its acquisition by Schneider Electric in 1991. The company still functions and distributes safety control machinery under the name Square D.
